60 Years of Memories

More Memories Than I Could Write

I have 28 years of memories at Resurrection. 

One was when my daughter Kelsie was the first baptism in the new font. I remember riding every day to Resurrection with my daughter Brandi—she to school and me to work. I started growing in my faith when my children celebrated the sacraments.

I’ve met lots of parents. The ones who stick out most were Domez’ parents, who moved back to Ecuador.

I’ve gone through five priests and have fond memories of them all and the solid advice they gave me that helped me grow in faith. 

I cannot forget the volunteers and everyday folks. Some have passed, like Leo Hietpas and Bill Woodward, who helped design the Building and Grounds Crew.  

One of my favorite volunteers is Marilyn Kubalak, who helped me grow in faith and enjoyment of Res. She and I, with George always watching, did some elaborate decorating for Easter.   

I have more memories than I could write down. I hope they continue to grow for a long time. Thank you all.

Resurrection Is Our Home

The best way to describe our life at Res is HOME. Resurrection is our home.

We moved our young and growing family here from Milwaukee when my husband, Dr. Daniel De Groot, and I were in our twenties. Resurrection was his childhood parish. While we have always been strong proponents of creating a church in the home, we had no idea how much we would make our home in this church.

We lived a block from church and could spot all the comings and goings at the rectory from our kitchen window. This was convenient for walking to and from school/church and volunteer and sports activities. Our pets could play with the kids at recess. Fr. Paul Demuth found and returned our two-year-old son to his babysitter when he was heading to the school kitchen to find his parents cleaning up after a parish variety show.

Spiritually, Resurrection has provided a safe home for us to grow our family. We have been welcome to share, study, doubt, and affirm our faith. We have been free to lead and follow our neighbors as we bump along. We have suffered deep loss and have found support. We have reached out and healed our fellow stewards when they needed lifting up. 

Resurrection has given our children a home to make lifelong friends, a place to make their sacraments, and a safe spot to make mistakes. I do not know how folks navigate without a beacon of light like Resurrection. Always there, always bright, always home.
