Day 15 of 60 Days to 60 Years
Resurrection Catholic Parish
1963-2023
We are Resurrection Catholic Parish;
the living body of Christ.
We are called and challenged
to live a prayer-filled life,
heal a broken world,
share our timeless stories,
and act with a servant’s heart.
We are called to be the love of Jesus;
welcoming and loving all God’s people all the time.
60 Years of Memories
Twinning with Okolona
By Fr. Paul Demuth
As ministry developed during the 1990s at Resurrection, an awareness developed that we as a parish community had to move beyond ourselves.
The pastoral council established an exploratory committee headed by Patricia Greene. We joined our search with Glenmary Home Missioners and soon discovered a small parish in northeastern Mississippi that seemed to fit our desire to initiate a partnership with a community we could visit and serve, as well as have them enrich our community.
We soon got to know Sr. Liz Browne and Sr. Nancy Schreck, two fantastic women who developed after-school programs, a community center, GED programs, and summer school events. These gave us marvelous opportunities to help them financially and, with hands-on visits to this poor community, introduce us to a new group of people we could get to know and support.
Thirty years later Resurrection continues to support the ministries of Okolona and they in turn help us to grow our awareness of the universal call to serve.
Fr. Demuth was pastor of Resurrection Parish 1987-2004.
Haikus
Members of the 2023 Resurrection confirmation class and their sponsors wrote haikus as part of their preparations to receive the sacrament.
Come to me, O Lord.
Further my faith in your love,
Your humble servant.
—Megan
Worship is a choice.
And it can be confusing.
But God will Love you.
